Our History
"The story of Winter Park Baptist Church has always been a story of growth - spiritual growth and numerical growth, made possible by the grace of God."
Ninety plus years ago the area around the present church was nothing but a stretch of land in the "middle of nowhere." at that time a trolley line from Wilmington to Wrightsville Beach ran through what is now the church property and the area that would ultimately become the center of the Wilmington metropolitan area!
In the summer of 1911, the First Baptist Church of Wilmington envisioned the possibility of a church in the "Winter Park Gardens" area. "The Little Brown Church", a chapel building, was built on this property soon thereafter as a mission church. Sunday School classes began in the fall of 1911 and worship services began in 1912. The small mission church launched out on it's own as Winter Park Baptist in 1913. Thus began the long history of Winter Park Baptist Church.
Since that time, the church building has grown, changed, and added on; however, the people remain faithful to the real purpose of WPBC which is to win people to Christ and nurture their spiritual growth. The church is, after all, more than bricks and boards, it's YOU!
